What’s Grandparents Day?!
We all know Mothers Day and Fathers Day — but did you know that we have a national holiday called Grandparents Day?
It’s the holiday (first recognized in 1978!) that almost no one knows about. Let’s change that this year.
You’re here because you already want to celebrate your grandparents. The ones with the slick outfits. The grandpas and nanas, abuelas and abuelos, popos and gonggongs whose stories have made us laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. The grandparents who have always given us unconditional love and support (and too many meals to count).
It’s time to show our grandparents some love.
Continue the spirit of ThrowbackSummer by celebrating Grandparents Day with us on Sunday, September 7, 2014. Share a photo of your grandparents using #GrandparentsDay.
How to celebrate
It’s easy to celebrate Grandparents Day. Here are some quick tips:
1. Call your Grandparents. If your grandparents are still with you, they’ll appreciate hearing your voice today. If they’re not, give someone else a call — maybe your kids’ grandparents, or any older adult who has an important place in your life.
2. Post a picture on social media using the hashtag #GrandparentsDay. Join the conversation today and brag about how great your grandparents are. Sharing a picture also has the added bonus of helping this holiday spread to people who haven’t heard about it yet.
3. Join us at an event — or host your own. Check out our list of events going on around the country, or start your own Grandparents Day event! Email firstname.lastname@example.org for information on how to start an event.
